VIMP 6.5

VIMP 6.5 is the latest version of our video platform, offering numerous improvements and new features. The focus is primarily on security, live streaming, data protection, and even more flexible management of users and media.

Here are the most important new features.

Enhanced security through two-factor authentication

One of the most important new features in VIMP 6.5 is support for two-factor authentication (2FA).

In addition to a password, this allows for an additional security factor to be required for login. VIMP supports popular authenticator apps such as Google Authenticator and Microsoft Authenticator.

Administrators can flexibly specify for which user groups two-factor authentication is mandatory and for which it is merely optional.

This significantly enhances the security of user accounts, particularly on video platforms with confidential or internal content.

New Dark Design for the Ocean Template

There’s also a visual update: With VIMP 6.5, a dark skin is now available for the current Ocean template.

This allows users to switch to a dark theme for the user interface if they wish.

At the same time, we’re announcing a change for the upcoming version: VIMP 6.5 will be the last version to include the current Pacific template. After that, only the Ocean template and the soon-to-be-released Cosmos template will be supported. Users of the Pacific template should therefore plan to switch in a timely manner.

Live Streaming Significantly Improved

Live streaming has also been fundamentally redesigned in VIMP 6.5.

Setting up and managing live stream servers is now easier and more powerful. In addition, the new technical foundation supports additional input formats and enhances the capabilities for high-availability live streaming environments.

A particularly useful feature: Live streams in progress can be recorded and then made available directly as on-demand videos in the portal.

A new automatic cleanup feature also ensures that live stream entries that are no longer available can be removed. Individual streams can be excluded from this process if necessary.

Optional Encryption of Media Files

With VIMP 6.5, media files can optionally be stored on the server in encrypted form.

This provides an additional layer of protection, particularly for organizations with heightened data protection and information security requirements.

The encryption applies to newly uploaded or newly processed media and can be enabled centrally.

Centralized and Improved Logging

The traceability of processes within the platform has also been improved.

Logging functions that were previously separate have been consolidated into a single log. This allows administrators to view events centrally and filter them as needed.

In addition, integration with external monitoring and security solutions has been enhanced. This is particularly beneficial for larger companies, government agencies, and other organizations that wish to integrate their VIMP installation into a centralized security monitoring system.

New Auditor Role

In line with this, VIMP 6.5 introduces a new auditor role.

By default, auditors are granted read-only access to the relevant areas of the platform but cannot make any changes there.

This facilitates internal and external audits, for example, as auditors can be granted the necessary insights without also being granted administrative rights to make changes.

More Flexible Permissions for Sharing Media

The role and permission system has also been further refined.

Administrators can now specify more precisely what content users are allowed to share. For example, a role can be configured so that users are allowed to share their own media but not the content of other users.

This allows permission structures to be tailored even more precisely to an organization’s internal guidelines and workflows.

New Rich-Text Editor

There is also a new feature in the user interface: The previous rich-text editors are being replaced by a new, modern editor.

This does not create any additional work for administrators. The new editor is used automatically if one of the previous editors was previously enabled.

Better protection against automated attacks

With the new rate limit for forms, VIMP 6.5 offers another way to protect the platform against automated attacks.

For example, it allows you to limit the frequency with which requests can be made to the login form within a specific time period. This effectively restricts automated attempts to perform a large number of logins in a short period of time.

VIMP 6.5 focuses on security and professional use cases

With VIMP 6.5, we are further developing the platform, particularly in the areas of security, live streaming, administration, and integration.

Two-factor authentication, encrypted media files, and enhanced protection against automated attacks raise the level of security. At the same time, the new auditor role, more detailed permissions, and the revised logging system provide greater control and traceability.

The improvements to live streaming also expand the platform’s range of applications.

VIMP 6.5 thus offers numerous new features for businesses, government agencies, educational institutions, and other organizations that want to deliver video content securely and flexibly within their own infrastructure.
