The new release 6.2 improves VIMP once again with useful functional enhancements and optimizations in the underlying architecture. Read on to find out what the biggest changes are.
Additional media owners
A medium can now be edited by multiple people. This is useful, for example, when the main owner is absent.
The media owner can appoint additional owners who are granted the same editing rights as the main owner. In addition, inheritance rights can be set so that the medium is transferred to a new designated owner when the main owner is deleted.
To avoid inconsistencies when editing a medium with multiple owners, the medium is locked for editing while it is being edited.
Work in Progress
A small but useful extension for VIMP. When activated, media can be set to “Work in Progress” status during upload. They are then only transcoded into the standard format and not into the defined additional formats. This saves storage space. Once the media has been processed, it is transcoded into the remaining formats.
Background noise transcription
As a supplement to video transcription (speech-to-text), it is now also possible to analyze background noise in videos and transcribe it for subtitles (SDH subtitles – Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing).
Playlists Focus Mode
A focus mode can now be activated for playlists, which hides all elements surrounding the player when playing playlist videos. This allows you to focus entirely on the playlist and the videos it contains.
Custom media storage locations
The storage location of uploaded media can now be defined individually. With the option to create subdirectories in the media folder, media can now also be stored on different storage devices, provided that the directories are mounted on them.
Dividing the media directory is recommended for portals with a large amount of media. It improves the speed of file operations and creates more clarity.
Further optimizations and adjustments
In addition, we have again made numerous minor improvements in the areas of performance, security, functionality, and design in this version.
