Our new major release 6.1 adds numerous useful improvements and new functions to VIMP. One focus of further development this time is server management and our livestreaming server extension, which we are initially making available to all customers as a free beta. Read below to find out what else has changed.
Multi Server Monitoring
In your dashboard, administrators with the appropriate authorization will see a new widget that provides information about server utilization. This can be used to identify server bottlenecks in order to plan further scaling. This is a particularly useful tool for cluster operation, allowing you to monitor all servers in one place. Furthermore, the new multi-server architecture also forms the basis for VIMP-internal live streaming (see below).
Livestream server (free beta)
With this version, we have integrated our own livestream server into VIMP. We are making the extension – initially in a beta version – available to all customers free of charge for testing. In a later phase, the extension will be bookable separately. With this extension, you have the option of either creating your own livestream completely in VIMP (so no external streaming server is required) or re-streaming an existing livestream.
Extension of multi-client capability
The multi-client capability in VIMP has been extended by several smaller functions, such as the option of enabling automatic client assignment via the user’s IP address or e-mail domain.
Extension of the playlists
The playlists have been enhanced with useful functions such as activating the autoplay function by default, browse buttons for navigating within the playlist, defining the default visibility of the playlists and role authorizations for accessing and managing the playlists.
Dashboard extension
In addition to multi-server monitoring, the dashboard now also contains an overview of the total video minutes available in the portal as well as a direct display of license information.
Further optimizations and adjustments
In addition to the new features mentioned above, the new VIMP version also contains further performance improvements this time, particularly in the update process. There are also minor improvements in the LDAP configuration, e-learning, channels and many other areas.
