We are pleased to present our new major release VIMP 6.0. With this version, we offer you numerous exciting features and improvements that not only further enhance the user-friendliness, but also the performance and flexibility of your platform. The new features are designed to give you more control, optimise your media management and make livestreams more efficient. Read below to find out what has changed and why it is worth updating.
Video annotations – interactive content made easy
With video annotations, you can insert text and links directly into the player window of your videos. This allows you to emphasise important information or comments for viewers without interrupting the video. The feature can be activated via the configuration and can be assigned to specific users in the role management. This function not only ensures a more dynamic video experience, but also promotes the interactivity of your content.
Hide publication status – More control over content
With VIMP 6.0, administrators have the option of specifying the publication status for media. Users can then no longer select a status such as “private”, “public” or “hidden” themselves when uploading, unless they have the corresponding authorisation. This allows you to define the default status centrally, which is particularly helpful for larger teams or strict publishing guidelines.
Media type filter – more clarity in the media collection
The new media type filter simplifies searching through your media library. Users can now filter for specific media types such as videos, photos, audio or documents, which significantly improves the navigation and management of your content. This offers an alternative to the previous separate media type subpages, as filtering can now be done directly on overview pages.
Low latency livestreaming – minimise delays
VIMP 6.0 now offers the option of defining Low Latency Livestreaming (LL-HLS) for your livestreams. This extension makes it possible to play livestreams with minimal delay, provided your streaming server supports the LL-HLS protocol. The integration into our player ensures that such streams are played back optimally so that viewers can participate in the live stream almost in real time.
TWIG admin template – modern and flexible
With the introduction of the TWIG template, the admin panel was converted to a more modern and flexible template engine. For everyday use, the functionality will not change for the time being, but TWIG simplifies the customisability and expandability of the admin panel. If you use individual customisations or plugins, you will also need to convert these to TWIG.
Further optimisations and adjustments
In addition to the major new features, VIMP 6.0 also brings some smaller, but nevertheless valuable improvements:
Direct upload to groups extended
All authorised group members who are allowed to add media to a group can now also upload media directly to groups via the upload form without requiring additional role permissions.
Activate/deactivate livestreams
Livestreams can now be specifically activated or deactivated, making the management of your live content even more flexible.
Column configuration in the admin panel
Administrators can now customise the columns in the table overviews. This allows you to see exactly the data that is relevant to your work.
New column “Last edited”
The admin media and user overviews now show when an entry was last edited, making it easier to track and update data.
Important notes
In addition to the functions presented here, VIMP 6.0 naturally offers you a range of other improvements in terms of usability, performance and security. We recommend that you take advantage of the new version and update to VIMP 6.0 as soon as possible.
